Gemma brings a wealth of experience in strategic communication, public relations, and media management and a proven track record of delivering successful PR campaigns and managing high-profile sporting events spanning 20 years.
As Head of PR and Communications at Hugh James, a Top 100 UK Law Firm with a leading sports practice representing national governing bodies, sports organisations and athletes, Gemma hones her passion for sport in her current role. Gemma also leads the firm’s partnerships with Wales Netball, Long Course Weekend Wales, Cardiff Rugby Foundation and the International Sports Convention.
Before joining Hugh James, Gemma was a key member of The Royal Mint’s communications team during a significant transition period following the passing of Her Late Majesty the Queen. Notably, Gemma’s career highlights include spearheading an award-winning PR campaign in collaboration with The Queen’s Green Canopy to commemorate Queen Elizabeth II’s Platinum Jubilee (awarded by PRCA). As part of her role, Gemma led the PR and Marketing for licensed partnerships with The Football Association, the Commonwealth Games in Birmingham and Team Wales.
With consultancy, agency and in-house experience, Gemma has worked as a media and communications manager for some of the world’s most prestigious sporting events. Having contributed to the success of the Champions League Final, Cricket World Cup, Rugby World Cup, and London Olympics, she has managed complex media operations on a global scale and developed strong relationships with key stakeholders and media outlets. Gemma spent ten years at the Welsh Rugby Union in the role of Communications Manager for Principality Stadium.
